Meet Your Bookkeeper

My goal is to be your business’s secret weapon to help you take control of your business finances! For years I worked in government accounting, and while that job might sound like a punishment to some people, I loved the work!

But then I started to notice something that didn’t quite sit right with me. I saw extremely talented entrepreneurs who could fill a boutique with the most amazing finds, and yet, these business owners still felt horribly inadequate because they didn’t understand their finances. 

I knew I had to partner with these people so they could get back to doing what they do best and stop spending their precious time and energy worrying about finances.

And so Black Dog Financial was created!

The name of my business was inspired by our three black dogs. My family and I are obsessed with our little Boston Terrier rascals and even though they’re small dogs, they have BIG personalities! This breed is so special to us, and we are even involved in a Boston Terrier rescue in our home state of Ohio.

You should also know that my family is my world. I’m married to my incredible husband Damon, and we have four kids! (Yep, four kids and three dogs—I’m sure you can imagine the joyful ruckus in our home!) Adoption is very near and dear to our hearts, as this is how we built our beautiful family.

In my free time, I’m an avid reader and like to get outside whenever I can. I love to take long walks with the dogs and listen to podcasts.

Personally…

Damon is Staci’s partner in managing the chaos at home. He’d prefer to spend his free time golfing, but with 4 kids...not gonna happen.

Wesley is a Star Wars loving ball of infinite energy with lots to say. He loves giving motivational speeches to his football teammates & playing outside.

Mason loves sports & being with his friends. He has his Mom’s sarcastic sense of humor & his Dad’s love of sports.

Austin loves Marvel & drawing & reading. He devours books & avoids math at all costs.

Hadleigh is sweet & funny & knows how to hold her own with 3 older brothers. She likes to dress up like a princess, but also dig in the mud & collect rocks that are “beautiful”.

Izzy is queen dog around here. She lets the other dogs know when she’s tired of them running around & playing. She likes to snuggle under so many layers of blankets we wonder how she can breathe.

Barley is sweet & timid until the doorbell rings or someone comes over, then he can’t get enough attention. Nothing makes him happier than going on a walk.

Bullet is the newest member of the pack. He loves to make us laugh, run & play with the kids.

Professionally…

Staci has over twenty years of experience in governmental accounting and operations at the local government level. Staci received her Bachelor’s degree in Financial Services from Wright State University and her Master’s degree in Taxation from Nova Southeastern University.

I feel like my business finances are a complete mess; can you still help me?

First off, I want to say that if you feel like your finances are in complete disarray, then you are not alone! Believe it or not, but coming in and supporting a business owner who hasn’t done any bookkeeping is one of my favorite things to do! Do I need any special software to work with a bookkeeper?

To make your life as easy as possible when it comes to bookkeeping, I do ask that all of my clients have a Quickbooks Online subscription. In the long run, this investment will save you so much time, energy, and money—which can go right back into your wallet!

Do you help with taxes?

Bookkeepers typically do not help you file your taxes. As part of my role, ahead of tax season I will prepare everything you need to give to your certified public accountant (CPA).

How often will we work together?

My bookkeeping services are completely customizable to suit the unique needs of your business. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to managing finances, so we will work together to determine the frequency of our check-ins so that you feel equipped, empowered, and confident that your finances are all in order! What information would I need to bring with me to a consultation?

You actually don’t need to bring anything! If you have a QuickBooks account, you can add me as a user on your account, then all the information I need is right there. But it’s not at all necessary to have Quickbooks for your consultation!

I operate a service-based business. Do I need a bookkeeper?

While people believe that bookkeepers can only help product-based businesses or brick-and-mortar shops that have to deal with inventory, service-based businesses like event planning, consulting, or graphic design can absolutely benefit from working with a bookkeeper.

Service-based industries usually require a majority of time be spent delivering the services to the customer, which doesn’t leave much time for back-end business management. Having a bookkeeper on your team will save you countless hours so you can focus on doing what you do best!

If I live in a different state, can I still work with you?

Absolutely! Remote bookkeeping is easier than ever with the many online programs and other resources for finance management and document sharing. I am also versed in states’ various requirements for sales tax and other accounting, so we’ll work together to make sure everything is in tip-top shape, no matter where you may be working!
